  9.      Hearts works quite well as a "Non-Windows Application"  from
  10.      within  the  Windows 3.x environment.  It must be noted that
  11.      Hearts is not a "Windows Application", but a  separate  .EXE
  12.      file  that can be started and used from within Windows.  The
  13.      following two files, supplied with Hearts,  provide  Windows
  14.      with  information  it needs on the location of Hearts within
  15.      your system, its operating needs, and the Icon  to  use  for
  16.      Hearts.  These two files are copied for you as part  of  the
  17.      Hearts install service.

  19.           HEARTS.PIF  (Program Information File)
  20.           HEARTS.ICO  (Hearts Icon)

  22.      If you did not install Hearts  using  its  built-in  install
  23.      facility,  you  need  to  copy  both  of  these files to the
  24.      directory location on you computer where  Hearts  is  stored
  25.      (e.g.,  C:\GAMES\HEARTS).   The  following  is an example of
  26.      what this DOS command line might look like.

  28.           COPY HEARTS.PIF C:\GAMES\HEARTS
  29.           COPY HEARTS.ICO C:\GAMES\HEARTS

  31.      Please  note  that  you  may  need  to  change the drive and
  32.      directory information (C:\GAMES\HEARTS) to the location  you
  33.      have established on your computer for Hearts.

  35.      Hearts  and Windows must be installed on you computer before
  36.      proceeding with the following installation steps.

  41.      Note:  The following two installation steps are accomplished
  42.             from  within  the  Windows environment.  This text is
  43.             not meant to be a tutorial but  merely  outlines  the
  44.             procedures  required to install a working application
  45.             for Windows.  A  general  working  knowledge  of  the
  46.             Windows  environment  is  helpful in the installation
  47.             process.  Please consult your  Windows  User's  Guide
  48.             for  any  specific information or commands you do not
  49.             understand.  Both of these steps are  performed  from
  50.             the  Windows'  "Program  Manager"  and  all  words in
  51.             quotes (" ") are as they appear in Windows 3.x.

  62.      following  outline  you  need  to type the correct drive and
  63.      directory location to which you have installed Hearts.   The
  64.      default    location    supplied    with   these   files   is
  65.      C:\GAMES\HEARTS.

  124.      Changing the Program Information File (HEARTS.PIF)

  127.      The  only information you may need to change in the PIF file
  128.      is the location on your computer where  you  have  installed
  129.      Hearts.   The  rest  of  the  information  in  this  file is
  130.      established based on the operational requirements of  Hearts
  131.      and Windows and should not be changed.  The default settings
  132.      in  the dialog boxes for the HEARTS.PIF file supplied are as
  133.      follows:

  135.         1)  "Program Filename:"    --> HEARTS.EXE
  136.         2)  "Window Title:"        --> Hearts
  137.         3)  "Optional Parameters:" -->
  138.         4)  "Start-up Directory:"  --> C:\GAMES\HEARTS

  140.      Items 1 and 4 may need changing based  upon  the  drive  and
  141.      directory  location  of Hearts on your computer.  If this is
  142.      the case, then the following steps  are  used  to  edit  the
  143.      HEARTS.PIF file.
